Chapter 10: Forever

In the morning I find myself waking up as the first one of the group. Wow, that's new. I smile to myself as I mentally tell myself how fantastic I am, and I remind myself too that I have to rub what just happened into everyone's faces.

As I scratch the back of my neck I walk towards my favourite spot of the island, the small cliff with the sea as a great view. I've been standing there a lot when Sayuna hadn't joined us yet, and now I feel like I should stand there again. I don't know why, but since I'm a person who trusts on his feelings I'm going to it anyway. Who knows what I'll find there, maybe a treasure.

When I arrive at my favourite spot I have to rub my eyes and blink a few times to see that after all, I'm not the first one awake. Typical. I let out a disappointed sigh before I continue my way to the spot, slowly starting to realise it's none other than Sayuna sitting there. I'd recognize that hair anywhere. And that's a compliment.

“Hey.”

Sayuna stands up immediately and turns around, taking one of those typical waterbending stances. I chuckle at her reaction as she starts to relax once she sees it's me. She then laughs softly.

“Sorry,” she apologizes, placing her hand on the back of her neck, “I didn't expect anyone else to be up yet. And certainly not you.”

“Well if it makes you feel any better, I didn't expect anyone else to be up yet either.”

She takes my hands in hers and takes a few steps closer to me. At first I back down but soon I let her come closer. I can't stop myself from blushing when she goes standing on her toes and is only inches away from my face with hers. I give her one of my sheepish smiles as I feel I'm starting to tremble. The smug look on her face makes my knees buckle. If I fall now, she's going with me.

Just when I think I'm about to fall Sayuna manages to keep me up by putting her arms around my neck. She keeps staring in my eyes and I can't help but seeing a certain sparkle in her eyes. She slowly comes closer to me and I know that within seconds I'll feel her breath on my skin.

“Tomorrow's the day, isn't it?”

I blink a few times with a confused look on my face, waking from the real dream I had. I see Sayuna looking at me with a small smile on her face and automatically smile back. My smile disappears from the moment I've figured out what she just told me. Or asked me.

“Yeah...”

I look away sadly and slowly let go of her, only to be stopped by her taking my wrists. She pushes me softly against her and gives me a sad, concernced look.

“You okay?”

I start nodding and fake a smile before my nodding changes into shaking and my smile changes into a slight frown.

“Hey.” she places her forehead against mine and I look at her. “What's wrong?”

I swallow softly and take a few steps backward, forcing Sayuna to let go of me. I look at the ground, slightly ashamed to face her. Or slightly afraid, depends on how you see it. Before I dare to look up at my favourite waterbender I take a deep breath, probably the deepest I've ever taken. No kidding.

“I just... don't know how it's going to end.” I pause, struggling with how I want to say what I want to say. “And... knowing that I don't know that...”

“Scares you?” My eyes widen. Is she... the one? The one who can read my mind and so finishes my sentences? “It scares me too. More than you know. Why do you think I woke up this early?” She waits a few moments, maybe to give me some time to answer. I don't know what to answer. “I want to spend the entire day with you, as long as possible. And... I want to let you know that...” She faces the ground and starts puller her sleeve. “No matter what happens...”

Before she can finish her sentence I find myself standing near her and kissing her on her lips. Her soft lips I'd almost forgotten. Her rough lips that enchanted me in ways I never imagined lips could. For some reason – I bet it's an idiotic one – I put my arms around her neck instead of the other way around, which makes me feel like a girl. And makes me think how stupid I am for doing that. However, all those thoughts disappear immediately from the moment I feel her arms wrapping themselves around my waist. She gets on her toes a tiny bit to deepen our kiss and... wow. I don't know what it is about her kisses, but wow. Unlike the person she claims to be her kisses are soft and loving. Passionate in a kind way.

After what seems like an eternity we finally stop kissing and look each other in the eyes. Sayuna pants a little as I smile at her.

“As I was saying,” she continued, making me chuckle again, “No matter what happens... I'll be yours forever.”

Instead of kissing her again – believe me, I want to – I look her some more in the eyes. Now it's my time to look smug, and from the second she notices how I'm looking at her she lifts one of her eyebrows.

“What? I just gave you my eternal love, what more do you want from me?”

I grin. “Didn't you make me a promise? Only one kiss?”

Her confused look turns into an amused one quickly. “I promise a lot of things.”

And then she presses me against her, pushing our lips softly yet hard on each other. I close my eyes with much pleasure as I hold her tightly in my arms, even if I've put my arms around her neck. Now I know that whatever happens, she won't only be mine forever, but I also will be hers.
